I’ve never really celebrated Valentine’s Day—it always felt too commercial to me. I believe love should be celebrated naturally, not just because the calendar tells us to. Since becoming a mom, love has taken on a whole new meaning. It’s the purest form of love—showing up every day, even when you feel like you have nothing left to give. And that love constantly evolves—from the warmth of chubby little arms around your neck to the pride of cheering on your teens. These days, being truly present feels harder than ever. Technology has a way of pulling us away from the moments that matter most. We scroll through emails while half-listening to bedtime stories, reply to messages during dinner, or get caught up in endless to-do lists. While the world focuses on romantic love this Valentine’s Day, I see it as a chance to honour the unconditional love that comes with being a parent—the kind that thrives in undistracted moments when we truly show up. The Power of 'Love-Bombing' Many years ago, a close friend introduced me to the concept of ‘love bombing.’ “A what?” I asked, expecting something entirely different. But as she explained, I grew curious. The idea came from psychologist Oliver James. Knowing she would never recommend something unworthy; I ordered a copy and was hooked. James explains that Love Bombing helps reset emotional connections, giving children a sense of security and control, strengthening the parent-child bond. Simply put, it’s about giving your child an intensive experience of feeling loved and in control. For a few minutes a day, or even a weekend, they set the agenda. In this Mom Talk, we sit down with Mishqah Petersen to explore her extraordinary journey through love, loss, and triumph. After navigating the storm of infertility and emerging stronger, Mishqah now uses her story to inspire and guide others as a bereavement counsellor. From heartfelt advice to the mantras that keep her going, her resilience and wisdom are truly inspirational.     Tell us a bit about your journey as a mother and bereavement counsellor. It’s been a long journey— 18 miscarriages, an ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, failed IVF treatments, and 4 years battling secondary infertility. I finally have my rainbow baby in my arms, and my toddler is so happy to be a big sister. My role as a registered counsellor in the field of bereavement has come full circle at times. I’ve been on both sides of the counselling room, but my experience is what fuels the heart-centred approach to my counselling practice. I can truly imagine the feelings of my patients because I’ve been in their shoes before.   What advice would you give to moms who are struggling with mental health challenges, especially those dealing with loss? Give yourself permission to feel. Cultivating healthy mental hygiene isn’t easy at first, but “the other side” is worth the effort. You deserve to experience a quality of life where you are not overwhelmed, overstimulated, or mentally exhausted. It’s okay to ask for help—you don’t have to face the grief and pain alone.   What are some practical tips you’d offer to moms feeling overwhelmed or stretched too thin? Focus on what is in your control. It’s okay to sit down, collect your thoughts, and have a cup of tea. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect all the time. Let go of societal pressures and expectations and mother in a way that fits your family.   We heard your dad, who’s a dentist, gave the Difrax pacifiers the thumbs up. Tell us a bit about this. My dad has been in dentistry and dental academia for over 25 years. He is passionate about oral function and development in infants and toddlers and was really impressed when he saw the Difrax pacifiers. Unlike conventional pacifiers, these are designed to prevent oral and dental irregularities.   Is there a mantra or piece of advice that helps you stay grounded on tough days?
